I admit I’ve always been a little skeptical of Amazon Basics. I used to associate the name with “cheap” or disposable, but that hasn’t been the case here. These bulbs feel solid, and the light quality is genuinely impressive.
Setup was refreshingly simple. There’s no external app involved and no extra steps hidden behind “works with Alexa.” I installed the bulbs, they blinked once, I opened the Alexa app, and they were ready to use. That alone felt like a small victory—especially knowing I won’t be stuck reinstalling apps after a power outage.
One thing I hadn’t realized beforehand is that the bulbs are white (opaque), not clear. Because of that, I decided they’d work better in my bedroom than in my dining room chandelier where the bulbs are visible—and they’ve been excellent there. They are noticeably brighter than the LED bulbs they replaced, despite being the same 40W equivalent, and far better than the remaining incandescent bulbs I had. The light is clean, even, and not harsh.
I’m not much of a color-light person for bedroom lighting, but the color range seems extensive and responsive based on what I tested. Overall, these were a pleasant surprise, and if they hold up over time, I’d have no hesitation choosing Amazon Basics smart bulbs again.
